Wireless Reliability in the Internet of Things (IoT) World

Wearables, Internet of Things (IoT), the next big bubble. Whatever you want to call it, the proliferation of small, simple devices that sense and communicate are here and is only getting bigger.

 

As with previous technology booms, the first generation of product has been nothing but a mess. The highly visible challenges have included confusing interfaces, a lack of applications, and surprisingly poor reliability. The drivers for reliable operation is highly dependent on the design, materials, and operating environment. But all wearables and IoT devices have one thing in common: they need to reliably communicate wirelessly. And that can be one of the hardest things to do.

 

In this introductory webinar, Dr. Craig Hillman will provide an initial overview of wireless in the IoT world. Dr. Hillman will discuss the wireless spectrum and the various protocols currently in use, including RFID, Bluetooth, Zigbee, etc. Issues and challenges with sending and receiving signals in regards to battery life and antenna design will be discussed. Finally, Dr. Hillman will discuss current test challenges in regards to confirming wireless operation in the real world over the lifetime desired by the end customer.
