Enhancing and Improving Dissolved Air Flotation Units
Marel wanted to know if they could extend their existing model range of concrete Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) units with a next larger one. They were also curious if they could assess risks and performance without actually building the unit.
It started with the design of a larger concrete DAF. After that, they started improving the existing stainless steel DAF series and the existing concrete DAF. DAF units are crucial for the pre-treatment process of wastewater.
During the first simulations, practical challenges emerged, such as determining the best inlet structure to realize a good influent flow distribution.Simcenter FLOEFD proved invaluable in calculating these dynamics, allowing Marel to see where improvements were needed.
