The BOM is No Longer Just Documentation

For years, the Bill of Materials (BOM) was treated as a final project deliverable. In today's electronics industry, however, component availability can become a critical design constraint long before a product reaches production.
Imagine completing simulations, finalizing the PCB layout, and preparing for release, only to discover that a key processor has moved into allocation and no longer meets the production schedule. Suddenly, redesign efforts become necessary, impacting layout, verification, and ultimately time-to-market.
With modern designs containing hundreds or even thousands of components, each with its own lifecycle status, lead time, and sourcing risks, manual BOM management is no longer sufficient. Forward-thinking engineering teams are increasingly leveraging supply chain intelligence throughout the design process to identify risks early and make informed component decisions.
