Best Practices in Connector Selection and Qualification

Connectors are critical components in almost all electronics today and can often be one of the first items to fail in a device. This webinar will outline best practices in connector selection and qualification. During this webinar, you will learn about common connector design and reliability considerations. We will discuss a broad spectrum of concerns for different types of connectors.

Josh will review some of the various underlying connector failure mechanisms (i.e. stress relaxation and fretting corrosion) and critical design features (i.e. plating materials) that affect connector selection. A mixture of case studies, failure analysis examples, and modeling will be used to highlight these issues.

Finally, we will review some considerations for connector qualification testing. We will discuss why it is critical to understand or characterize the actual use environment of a product in addition to standard test specifications.

Key Takeaways:

  • Best practices and considerations for connector selection
  • Understanding common connector failure mechanisms can help avoid critical failures and improve connector selection during the design process
  • A review of connector specification and approaches to qualification testing
