Product Reliability Alert: Red Phosphorous
Due to a recent upsurge in Red Phosphorous failure modes affecting clients on a wide scale, we are offering a webinar to address this critical issue.
DfR Solutions has been receiving reports from multiple clients of corrosion, electrical shorts and thermal events in connectors and sockets with red phosphorus as flame retardants. These failures are occurring even when the connectors are NOT PLUGGED IN. While the issue has been observed across connectors and sockets from multiple suppliers, one similarity seems to be that all the connectors and sockets are coming from mainland China manufacturers and the use of red phosphorous was not reported through a part change notification (PCN) document.
In this timely webinar, you will learn more about the issues that have been occurring and advice and assistance to mitigate this problem going forward.

The transition to replace gold with copper bond wires in semiconductor components, primarily driven by the ever increasing price of gold wire, has been under way for several years. Cu wire bonds (Cu-WBs) are technically more challenging than gold to produce, requiring improved designs, processes and equipment. After introduction in consumer products, their use is now migrating to automotive and other HI-REL electronics products where product integrity for quality, reliability and durability (QRD) and safety over 10-25 years in a demanding harsh environment is paramount, in addition to managing cost in the highly competitive global automotive market.
