Why Simcenter FLOEFD Standalone?

Simcenter FLOEFD Standalone is a fully CAD-embedded CFD software with multiphysics capabilities, for designers to analysts. It helps shorten development by up to 65-75% compared to typical CFD approaches by frontloading fluid flow simulation and thermal analysis and using native CAD geometry. It enables engineers to directly work on their CAD model for preparing and evaluating their concurrent CFD simulation.

Frontload CFD simulation to shorten development
Simcenter FLOEFD Standalone enables design engineers to perform simulation earlier in the design process when it is more cost-effective to identify and fix problems or explore improvements. Integrated in CAD, it has shown improved productivity by a factor of x2 to x40.

Leverage an intuitive CFD interface for designers
Put simulation in the hands of design engineers with the Simcenter FLOEFD CAD embedded interface, guided simulation set up and execution, intelligent automation technologies and straight forward viewing of results. Allow them to explore design performance earlier so they can make informed decisions without having to overcome traditional barriers.

Perform CFD directly on native CAD geometry and eliminate CFD overheads
Eliminate delays in geometry translation between tools and overcome complexity in preparing CAD geometry for CFD analysis. Simcenter FLOEFD uses native geometry directly: so as you explore performance or evaluate changes to a model, the CAD model is being changed concurrently.

It has key strengths in robust automatic meshing and unique SmartCell technology that enables handling of CAD geometry of any quality. These strengths help to handle small narrow gaps in assemblies and surface inconsistencies, which often cause long delays for healing in traditional CFD tools. This is complemented by intelligent automation for pre-processing, such as automatic sealing of CAD geometry and leak identification.

Use simulation driven design – explore, compare and optimize
Leverage parametric studies and design exploration functionality to evaluate more design options within the time available. Evaluate 'what if' scenarios to ensure product performance and reliability in different conditions.

Using this software, you can easily compare designs using side-by-side with CFD result visualizations, plots and tabular results and generating reports in just a few clicks. When your design is optimized using simulation, you can directly communicate the CAD model to other engineering functions.

Answer Difficult Engineering Questions

Simulation-driven design has helped thousands of engineers across the globe answer real engineering questions. However, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), as a simulation discipline is one of the most complicated to master. Until now. Unleash the power of CFD inside CAD. Featuring built-in specialist expertise and intelligent automation, CAD-embedded CFD software lets you conduct fluid flow and heat transfer analysis immediately after creating new design concepts. And more importantly it runs on your platform of choice – be it Siemens NX, Creo, CATIA V5 or Solid Edge.

Tight CAD-integrated CFD Simulation

Tight integration enables users to do multiple design studies and evaluate how the modifications influence the performance of the design.

Parametric Study and Design Comparion Functionality

The compare configuration and parametric study capability inside Simcenter FLOEFD enables engineers to understand the influence of changes in the geometry or boundary conditions on the results. Users can evaluate the design envelope by assessing results by numerical values, by graphs and by visual images and animations and thereby compare a wide range of project permutations.

Fast and Automated Cartesian Meshing Technology

Simcenter FLOEFD uses Cartesian meshing technology which is recognized as the most efficient framework for simulating fluid flows, heat and mass transfer. In addition, the meshing process can be automated easily for even the most complex CAD geometries. When coupled with an immersed boundary cut-cell approach, this form of preprocessing inside Simcenter FLOEFD gives unprecedented speedup in the overall design process.

Simcenter FLOEFD now includes sliding mesh modeling, letting you create more realistic simulations of rotating equipment and transient flow behaviors, such as when fluid quantity is highly non-uniform around a rotating part.

Instinctive User Experience

Simcenter FLOEFD features an easy-to-use GUI with considerable intelligent automation built-in as standard:

  • Powerful analysis wizard guides users through the problem set-up
  • Interface uses engineering terms instead of technical jargon therefore users can focus on solving flow problems as opposed to figuring out how to use the software
  • Real-time feedback about the solution progress such as convergence, residual errors and monitor point values
  • Engineering outputs appear in both a timely and intuitive manner, including reports in Microsoft Excel and Word

Bronswerk Heat Transfer BV's Whizz-Wheel®-based cooling systems

  • Groundbreaking design achieved up to 80% thermodynamic efficiency - traditional designs only achieve about 60%.
  • Saved 15% of electricity usage.
  • Met stringent European Environmental Control Board standards.

"Most importantly, Simcenter FLOEFD gave us the opportunity to really understand the aerodynamics of air-cooled coolers for the first time because the flow and the aerodynamics are more than just a flow through the intake and the fan itself". Guus Bertels, Senior Engineer Bronswerk Heat Transfer BV
